Today I will tell you a story. It called 狡猾的狐狸一只狼和一只狐狸住在一起。有一天，狼捉到了一只鸡，高高兴兴地回到家里，把那只鸡交给狐狸说：“你把鸡杀了，拔掉鸡毛，洗洗干净，放在火炉上煮起来，我请老熊一起来吃鸡。” 狼说完，就去请老熊了。狐狸在家里煮鸡，不多一会儿，鸡九煮熟了。狐狸馋得直淌口水，就从锅里捞起一只鸡腿来吃，吃完了，还想吃，又捞起一只鸡翅膀来吃，吃完了，还想吃，不一会儿，一只鸡全给吃完了。老狼回来了：“狐狸，狐狸，鸡煮熟了没有？” 狐狸撒谎说：“还差一点呢！” 老狼说：“我先去把刀磨一磨，等会儿老熊来了，咱们拿了刀子切鸡肉吃。” 老狼正在屋子后面磨刀，老熊来了。狐狸对老熊说：“你这个大笨蛋，还不快跑，老狼骗你来，要割你的耳朵呢，你不信，你听，老狼在磨刀子呢！” 老熊侧着脑袋一听，真的听到沙沙沙磨刀的声音，吓得转身就跑。狐狸看着老熊跑了，就大喊大叫起来，跑到屋子后面，对老狼说：“你看，你的朋友老熊真不讲理，你好心好意请它来吃鸡肉，它倒把你的鸡全抢走了！” 老狼一听，信了狐狸的话，气得跳了起来，立刻就去追老熊，拿着的刀也忘记放下了。老狼跑到外面，看到老熊在跑，就一边追，一边大声喊：“喂，笨狗熊，你快给我回来！” 老熊回头一看，老狼拿着一把雪亮雪亮的刀子追来了，它以为老狼真的来割它的耳朵了，就没命地逃。就这样，一个逃，一个追，老熊逃得快，老狼也就追得更快。后来，老狼追上了老熊，从背后一把抓住了它。老狼问老熊：“你为什么抢我的鸡？” 老熊问老狼：“你为什么要割我的耳朵？” 狼说：“谁说的，我干嘛要割你的耳朵！” 老熊说：“你看，我哪里抢过你的鸡？” 这时候，它们才知道上了狐狸的当。它们马上回去找狐狸，可是狐狸早就逃走了。

Last lesson, we learned how to count from 0 to 10. Today we will learn more numbers from 11 to 100. I know it sounds challenging, but don’t worry, because Chinese numbers follow an easy pattern, it can help you remember them. We learned 10 last time, it’s 十(shí), so how to say 11? Very easy! 11 is 10+1, so in Chinese, 11 is 10,1. 十(shí)一(yī). 12 is 10+2, so in Chinese, 12 is 10,2.十(shí)二(ėr). What about 13? You guess right, it’s 10,3. 十(shí)三(sān). You growth all the way up, 十(shí)四(sì), 十(shí)五(wŭ), 十(shí)六(lìu), 十(shí)七(qī), 十(shí)八(bā),十(shí)九(jĭu), rise up to 19. Okay, let’s move to 20. It’s also very easy and very logical. 20 is 2x10, so in Chinese, 20 is 2,10. 二(èr)十(shí). What about 21? 2x10+1; 2,10,1. 二(èr)十(shí)一(yī). 22, 2x10+2; 2,10,2. 二(èr)十(shí)二(èr). It works like that all the way up to 99, 9,10,9. 九(jĭu)十(shí)九(jĭu). Okay, that’s the pattern. Let’s have a test. 40? 4,10. 四(sì)十(shí). 46? 4,10,6. 四(sì)十(shí)六(lìu). 65?6,10,5. 六(lìu)十(shí)五(wŭ). 88? 8,10,8. 八(bā)十(shí)八(bā). 72? 7,10,2. 七(qī)十(shí)二(èr). Excellent! Good job guys! In case you wondering how to say 100 in Chinese, it’s 一(yī)百(baĭ). 百(baĭ) means hundred. You already know how to count from 0 to 100, but how to use them? For example, we can use them to express your age. Let’s see you’re 21 years old. You can say 我(wŏ)二(èr)十(shí)一(yī)岁(suì). 我(wŏ) means I. We already learned it before. 岁(suì) means age, the forth tone. How about 32 years old? It’s我(wŏ)三(sān)十(shí)二(èr)岁(suì). That’s all for this lesson, I hope you can enjoy it. Bye.

Today I will tell you a story. It called 小壁虎借尾巴一天，小壁虎在墙角捉蚊子，一条蛇咬住了它的尾巴。小壁虎慌忙逃跑，一使劲儿，尾巴挣断了。没有尾巴多难看啊！小壁虎难过极了。小壁虎伤心地爬到屋檐下，它看见燕子在空中摆着尾巴飞翔，眼睛一亮：“我可以借条尾巴呀！” 于是小壁虎对燕子说：“燕子阿姨，把您的尾巴借给我行吗？”燕子说：“不行啊，我飞的时候要用尾巴控制方向呢。”小壁虎告别了燕子，决定继续去借尾巴。小壁虎沿着墙壁向下爬的时候，看到一只小老鼠摆动着尾巴向上爬。小壁虎说：“老鼠哥哥，把您的尾巴借给我行吗？”小老鼠说：“这可不行，我爬行的时候需要用尾巴帮忙。”小壁虎说声“再见”，然后继续向远方爬去。小壁虎刚爬到小河边，看到河面上冒出一串水花，它走近一看，原来是小鱼在河里摇尾巴呢！小壁虎说：“小鱼姐姐，把您的尾巴借给我行吗？”小鱼说：“真对不起，我要用尾巴拨水呢！”小壁虎一点都不灰心，又向前爬去。小壁虎沿着树干向上爬，它听到“嗒嗒，嗒嗒”的声音，抬头一看，原来是啄木鸟在捉虫子呢！小壁虎说：“啄木鸟先生，把您的尾巴借给我行吗？”啄木鸟说：“不行呀，你瞧，我要用尾巴支撑身体呢！” 小壁虎点点头，继续向前爬去。小壁虎爬呀爬，爬到草地上。草地上马儿在奔跑，尾巴扬起来，真神气！小壁虎冲着一匹正在吃草的马儿说：“马大哥，把您的尾巴借给我行吗？”马儿说：“不行啊，我跑的时候，要用尾巴保持平衡；我停下来的时候，要用尾巴驱赶蚊子和苍蝇。”小壁虎借不到尾巴，又累又难过，它想回家了。小壁虎默默地往家里爬去，一边爬一边想：“大家的尾巴都那么有用，我借不到尾巴了，怎么办呢？” 一回到家，小壁虎就钻进妈妈怀里，把借尾巴的事告诉了妈妈。妈妈笑着说：“傻孩子，你转过身子看看。”小壁虎转身一看，高兴地大叫起来：“我长出一条新尾巴啦！我的尾巴是最棒的！”

Today I will teach you how to count in Chinese from zero to ten. Numbers play an important role in our life; you need to use them almost everywhere. Like for phone numbers, your age and telling time. Different numbers have different means in Chinese, some of them are lucky numbers, and some of them are not. 零（líng）is zero in Chinese, the second tone, rising tone. 一（yĪ）is one in Chinese, the first tone, flat tone. 二（èr）is two in Chinese, the forth tone, falling tone. 二（èr）is considered a lucky number, because Chinese people believe good things come in pairs. 三(sān)means three, the first tone, flat tone. 四（sì）is four, the forth tone, falling tone. Normally Chinese people don’t like四（sì）very much. Because四（sì）sounds similar like 死（sĭ）-death in Chinese. When you pronounce them, the only different part between四（sì）and死（sĭ）is their tone. 四（sì）is the forth tone, and死（sĭ）is the third tone. No one likes death, right? So normally, 四（sì）is an unlucky number for Chinese people. Imaging that if your plate number is四（sì）四（sì）四（sì）四（sì）四（sì）, it sounds like die die die die die. Okay, let’s continue. Number five is 五（wŭ）, the third tone, falling and rising tone. 六（liù）is six, the forth tone, falling tone. It’s a lucky number. It means smoothly or successfully. Chinese people believe this number can make things go well. 七（qī）is seven, the first tone, flat tone. It’s a neutral number. 八（bā）is eight. A lot of Chinese people love this number very much, because it sounds like 发（fā）, means to become wealthy! My father’s phone number has three eights, he’s really happy with that. Number nine is九（jiŭ）, the third tone, falling and rising tone. It’s also a lucky number, and it means longevity. 十（shí）is ten, the second tone. Okay, that’s all for today. Let me count again. 零（líng）一（yĪ）二（èr）三(sān) 四（sì）五（wŭ）六（liù）七（qī）八（bā）九（jiŭ）十（shí）. And 二（èr）六（liù）八（bā）九（jiŭ）are lucky numbers, 四（sì）is an unlucky number. I hope you enjoyed this lesson. 手捧空花盆的孩子

Today I will tell you a story about 手捧空花盆的孩子从前有个国王，年纪很大了，眼睛花了，耳朵也有点聋了，走起路来跌跌撞撞。国王想：我快要死了，我死了以后，让谁来当国王呢？有一天，国王告诉全国的老百姓，他要挑一个孩子将来当国王。怎么个挑法呢？他给所有的孩子发了一粒花籽，看谁能拿这粒花籽种出最美丽的花来，就让谁将来当国王。有个孩子叫宋金，他领了一粒花籽回家去，把它种在一个花盆里，天天浇水，他多么希望那粒花籽长出芽，抽出枝，开出最美丽的花来啊！可是日子一天一天地过去了，花盆里什么也没长出来，宋金多着急啊！他换了一个花盆，又换了一些土，把那粒花籽种上。可是两个月过去了，到了大家送花去比赛的日子，花盆里还是空空的，什么也没长出来。这一天，全国各地的孩子一齐来到皇宫里，他们每个人都捧着一盆花，有红的，有黄的，有白的，都很美丽，一下子很难说出谁的花最美。国王出来看花了，他从孩子们的面前走过去，他们手里捧的花多美丽呀。可是国王一直皱着眉头，一句话也不说。他走呀走呀，忽然看见一个孩子手里捧着一个空花盆。瞧，那个孩子低着头，心里难过极了。别人种出美丽的花来，可他呢，什么也没种出来。他是谁呀？他就是宋金。国王走到宋金面前，问他：“孩子，你怎么捧着一个空花盆呀？” 宋金哭了起来，他说：“我把花籽种在花盆里，用心浇水，可是花籽怎么也不发芽，我，我只好捧着空花盆来了。” 国王听完宋金的话，高兴得笑起来，他说：“找到了，我找到了，我要找一个诚实的孩子当国王，你是诚实的孩子，我让你做将来的国王。” 原来，国王发给大家的花籽是在锅里煮过的，怎么会发、抽枝、开花呢？宋金种不出花来，别的孩子也种不出花来。别的孩子是换了好的花籽才种出花来的。宋金可没有这样做，所以他是个诚实的孩子。

In our last lesson, you learned a few of popular expressions of greeting. Today, you are going to learn how to introduce yourself. Frist let me introduce myself. 你(nĭ)好(hăo)，我(wŏ)是(shì)晨(chén)曦(xī)。Let me say again. 你(nĭ)好(hăo)，我(wŏ)是(shì)晨(chén)曦(xī)。 Okay, you probably already heard me said你(nĭ)好(hăo) in our last lesson, and I promise you, I will still say it millions of times in our future lessons. 你(nĭ)好(hăo) is how to say HELLO in Chinese. 你(nĭ)好(hăo) you good. 你(nĭ)好(hăo)，你(nĭ)好(hăo)，你(nĭ)好(hăo)。 Before we move to nest sentence, I must need you to have an idea about Pinyin-Chinese phonetic system. It’s really important. I can’t skip it, because it’s the foundation in Chinese learning. It can help you know how to pronounce Chinese characters. I’m really sorry that I can’t through podcast to teach you Pinyin, but don’t worry, you can find the learning resources on my site: Chenxilchinese.weebly.com. Once you have an idea about Pinyin, the part what I want you to notice now is tone. There are total of four different tones in Pinyin and every Chinese character has their own tone.你(nĭ) is the third tone. It not nī-the first tone, or ní-the second tone, or nì-the forth tone. It’s nĭ. 好is also the third tone. It not hāo-the first tone, or háo-the second tone, or hào-the forth tone. It’s hăo. So when you say你(nĭ)好(hăo)，it’s not nihao1, nihao2 or nihao4, it’s你(nĭ)好(hăo). If you don’t get it, don’t worry. We will practice them a lot in my future lessons. Okay, let’s come back and see how to say I am so and so. When I say我(wŏ)是(shì)晨(chén)曦(xī), 我(wŏ) is I. In Chinese, I and me are the same word 我(wŏ), the third tone. Please follow me, 我(wŏ)，我(wŏ)，我(wŏ). 是(shì) is am, the forth tone, 是(shì). So我(wŏ)是(shì) is I am. By the way, in Chinese,是(shì) is be verb. It can be am, is, are, was, were. Do you remember how to say you in Chinese? It’s你(nĭ), as你(nĭ)好(hăo). So how to say you are-你(nĭ)是(shì), 你(nĭ)是(shì). You see Chinese is not as difficult as you thought. Well, I believe you already knew how to introduce yourself right now. When I introduce myself, I say我(wŏ)是(shì)晨(chén)曦(xī) means I am Chenxi. So for you, 我(wŏ)是(shì) add your own name there. Like我(wŏ)是(shì) Tom, 我(wŏ)是(shì) Amanda, 我(wŏ)是(shì) Jack. Okay, good job guys, see you next time.

快乐的小熊

Today I will tell you a story about 快乐的小熊熊妈妈有一个可爱的小熊宝宝，小熊已经半岁了，是个又机灵又淘气的孩子。熊妈妈每天都带着小熊去抓鱼，妈妈抓的鱼又多又好。熊妈妈抓鱼时，小熊就在河边玩儿。熊妈妈经常说：“乖宝宝，你也学着抓一条鱼吧！”“不嘛，不嘛！妈妈抓得快，还是妈妈抓！”每一次小熊都这么说。这一天，熊妈妈像往常一样，跳到河里抓鱼。但是她显得有气无力的样子。一次次地看着鱼从身边游走，就是抓不住。小熊在岸上又跳又叫：“妈妈，鱼来啦，快抓呀！”从日出到日落，熊妈妈一条鱼也没抓住。连续几天都是这样子，熊妈妈饿得走不动了。小熊想：“妈妈病了，再不吃东西，身体受不了的。” 于是，小熊拎起小桶直奔河边，像妈妈那样，跳下河，拍打着水面。一条鱼游过来了，小熊猛地一抓，鱼被牢牢地抓住了。就这样，小熊抓了一条又一条，一会儿小桶就装满了。小熊拎起桶，高兴地回家了。他把鱼做给妈妈吃，妈妈的病很快就好了。从那以后，小熊依然每天跟妈妈去抓鱼，但他舍不得让妈妈下水，每次都是他抓鱼，熊妈妈在岸上等着。可爱的小熊已经长大了，他把妈妈照顾得很好，他真是个孝敬的好孩子。

Hi everyone, I’m Chenxi, welcome to my Chinese Cabin. In here, you can learn Chinese with me. I will provide the very basics of spoken Chinese and Chinese stories to you. Hoping you will like them. Today, we will learn some basic and important words and phrases of greeting. I believe it is also where you want to start learning Chinese. In China, there are many ways to say hello. The most popular expression is “你好”. “你” means “you”, and ”好” means “good”. So when you say “你好”，you are literally saying “you good”. It means “Hi” or “Hello” or “Nice to meet you”. When people say “你好” to you, as a reply, you can also say “你好” back to them. It can be used on a formal occasion or on a stranger. When you want to greet somebody you already know, you can say “最近怎么样?” “How is going so far?”. As a reply, you can say “不错，你呢?” “Not bad, and you?” or “挺好, 你呢?” “Good, and you?” back to them. There are also some special ways to greet somebody you already know, like “你吃了么?” “Have you eaten?”. You will hear it very often in China. When people ask you this question, you don’t need to answer it seriously and particularly. It’s just a casual greeting like “你好”. So when people ask you “你吃了么?” “Have you eaten?”, you can reply to them “吃了, 你呢?” “ Yes, and you?” or “还没呢, 你呢?” “Not yet, and you? ”. Using this kind of way to greet people, it can make your relationship looks like closer. Well, I think that’s all for now. Seems like a lot already.
